Pensioner goes for his own epic Munro goal

Gerry, 66, aka the grandad aiming to be the fastest pensioner to compleat a Munro round

Retired GP Dr Gerry McParlin, of Applecross, is aiming to be the fastest pensioner to complete a Munro round. He’s still out there doing his Munros and if he stays on course the 66-year-old will compleat (correct spelling!) in less than 100 days. The Munros (the 283 Scottish mountains with peaks of more than 3000ft) certainly seem to inspire some amazing challenges. Only last week Spyke completed the fastest ever solo round in just 39 days.

I only managed to climb two Munros this weekend. I bagged the two on the Ben Alligan ridge in Torridon on Sunday. While hiking up and then down and then up and down and up and down I spent quite a lot of time thinking about how awesome these people are who manage to keep walking Munros day after day. It’s fantastic to see such inspiring people out in Scotland’s great outdoors.

You can find out more about Gerry’s progress  here at Grandad’s Mad Munro Marathon challenge
