For the Record: My account of the Bealach Mor Sportive

Written by Fiona September 13 2010

My ascent of the testing Bealach-na-Ba

While James Moncur of the Daily Record wrote a great blow-by-blow account of his Bealach Mor Cycle Sportive, I wrote a blog that was a tad less testosterone fuelled! I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that! He had a great time cycling with a group of Record readers and crossed the finish linein a respectable time.

I loved the event but my question on the day was: Where were all the women? Find out more in my Record blog. Of more than 550 entrants, only 17 were women! Cycling is a great calorie burner (the 90-mile Bealach Mor burned off 5000 calories!); it tones legs, bums and tums; it can be as sociable or as solo as you fancy and it has the potential to take you to some fantastic places in Scotland – and across the world.

I’m thinking of writing a series of blogs about: How to get started with cycling. Especially for women. Watch this space!

I’ve become hooked on the sport having spent many years believing that running was the best sport for me! Now I want to find another cycling event to aim for.
