A commuter cyclist and his revealing blog

Written by Fiona January 04 2011

Magnatom and I have been cyber cycling pals ever since I wrote an article about him and his commuter cycling filming. Magnatom commutes to work in Glasgow and has been filming his daily journey on a helmet-mounted camera for some years. On his blog he describes himself as: “I’m a bloke who cycles and films what he sees… ”

He sometimes posts his videos on YouTube so that others can witness some of the nightmares that take place on our roads. The films reveal bad driving in relation to cyclists, poor pedestrian attitude to cyclists, as well as the bad cyclists who give the good cyclists a bad name. Some of his films are shocking in the extreme.

Recently, Magnatom was unfortunate enough to become a near-death cyclist when approaching a roundabout at the same time as a lorry driver. He had filmed the scary episode and he therefore presented it as evidence during a subsequent accident report to police. Things didn’t work out as Magnatom had hoped and his blog now reveals the full and sorry – yet hopefully positive – story. Take a look at his 20cms from death blog. It makes for an interesting read.
